Gloucester Supported Internship
This Steps into Work Supported Internship is based at EDF Energy in Barnwood, Gloucester, and from September 2017 at StarBistro at Royal Crescent, Cheltenham, and a bed and breakfast in Painswick, offering opportunities in catering and housekeeping. The tasks at EDF Energy are mainly administrative-based, but there are also catering opportunities to explore. Because of the nature of the administrative work, you are required to have English and maths at Level 2 or above for these roles. However, for other tasks such as catering, you don’t need this. In all settings you will be supported by a job buddy, a job coach and a tutor.
The programme is for people aged 19 and over with a self-declared disability. We have worked with people with disabilities that include visual impairment, cerebral palsy, autism, acquired brain injuries and learning difficulties. The programme runs for one year, is term-time only and four days a week. All of your time will be spent in the workplace. Interns will study towards an appropriate vocational qualification, as well as English and maths qualifications if you don’t already have a Level 2.
At the end of the programme you will be supported to search for jobs, apply for jobs and attend interviews. Currently, 75% of interns successfully move into paid jobs.
